On March 11, 2026, the Factory-X Day took place under the motto “Implementing machinery-relevant use cases in data ecosystems” – an event that clearly showed how far the industry has already come in the field of data spaces and what concrete steps are next. Strong participation from the mechanical and plant engineering sector Around 90 participants – including many decision-makers from VDMA member companies – followed the invitation and brought exactly the expertise needed to transfer data space concepts into industrial reality. The composition of the audience reflected the relevance of the topic for the entire machinery and plant engineering industry. Practical use cases in focus At the heart of the day were practice-oriented presentations that made the concrete value and potential of data space architecture tangible. Use cases from the areas of condition monitoring, circular economy and collaborative engineering showed that data spaces are no longer an abstract concept, but real solutions for real challenges in the equipment manufacturing industry. Technological foundation is laid – now the ball is with the industry The Factory-X project lays the technological foundation for data ecosystems in mechanical engineering. What matters next is the adoption by equipment manufacturers. Only when initial concepts are transferred into practice can the necessary network effects emerge that will allow the entire ecosystem to take off. Value Proposition Workshop as highlight of the afternoon The afternoon was dedicated to the interactive “Value Proposition Data Spaces” workshop, which allowed participants to dive deeper into the topic. Through joint work, new ideas, approaches and inspiration emerged – a format that deliberately focuses on dialogue and co-creation instead of pure knowledge transfer. Impulse, networking and orientation Factory-X Day 2026 delivered what the industry currently needs: strong impulses, in-depth discussions with experts, fresh ideas and, above all, clear orientation on the path toward a data-driven future in mechanical engineering. The networking among participants was an important added value, as data ecosystems depend on exactly these connections. We look forward to the next steps together with the community and thank all participants, speakers and contributors for an inspiring day.
