A New Foundation for Cross-Industry Data Sharing

Factory-X proudly introduces the MX-Port Concept, a major step toward seamless, secure, and scalable data sharing across industries. Developed by the Factory-X project and currently under validation with the Manufacturing-X guidance board, the MX-Port offers an open and flexible framework, empowering companies of all sizes to collaborate and create value within digital ecosystems.

The concept structures data exchange into five distinct layers, focusing on key qualities such as interoperability, trust, scalability, and data sovereignty. It builds on established standards and initiatives where useful and extends them where necessary to meet the specific needs of Factory-X use cases.

Initial example configurations — referred to as “Hercules,” “Leo,” and “Orion” — outline possible approaches to address different use cases and business requirements. These are conceptual designs and will be further refined in the next stages.
